Perkins Scores Goal in Draw Versus Duquesne

Box Score

BOONE, N.C. - App State women's soccer junior Mary Perkins scored in a 1-1 draw versus Duquesne in the home opener on Friday afternoon at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

Perkins scored her third-career goal in thrilling fashion as she tied up the contest following a Deena DeBaldo goal in the fifth minute that gave the Dukes a 1-0 lead. The junior fired away from 35 yards out as the first 45 expired. Olivia Cohen fed Perkins for the assist and recorded her first collegiate point.

Appalachian could only get one good shot attempt on goal in the second half when Sunna Thorbjornsdottir had a great attempt at giving the Mountaineers a  2-1 lead early in the second half but was stopped by
the Duquesne goalkeeper.

The Mountaineer defense allowed a season-best three shots on goal (11 in the first two games) with Kerry Eagleston coming up with two saves in all 110 minutes.

App held a 13-10 edge in shots while posting five shots on goal, which is the second game this season with at least five attempts on target. The Black and Gold also attempted a season-high six corner shots, boasting a 6-3 advantage in corners.

App State is now 5-1-1 over its last seven home openers. It will look for its first win of the season on Sunday at 4 p.m. against UNC Asheville at Ted Mack.
