Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - App State women's soccer fell to No. 23 Wake Forest, 2-0, on Sunday evening at Spry Stadium.
Appalachian faced its second opponent on the road that went to the NCAA Tournament in 2018, while the Demon Deacons came in ranked.
"Tonight was a huge test for us," head coach
Sarah Strickland said. "Wake Forest went to the Sweet 16 last year and is No. 23 in the nation. I'm so proud of
how the girls battled tonight. We stayed extremely organized and defended like champions. I look forward to opening at home next weekend and welcoming
all of App Nation to our new turf stadium."
The Mountaineers weren't able to find their rhythm on offense with a shot on goal by
Hayley Boyles, and
Tess Cairney tallied a shot for the Black and Gold.
WF's Ashley Frank scored the game's first goal at 25' to put the hosts up 1-0. It wouldn't be until the 86th minute when Ryanne Brown tacked on a late goal to give the Deacons a 2-0 edge.
Kerry Eagleston made her second consecutive start to the season, stopping four shots and playing all 90 minutes.
"Thank you to all of the fans and App State women's soccer alumni that traveled to Wake Forest to support us tonight," Strickland said.
