NEW ORLEANS – App State Soccer standouts
Ellie Garrison,
Maddie Williams,
Lucy Harrington and
Hanna Skogsfors were named to All-Sun Belt Conference teams that the league announced on Thursday.
Garrison was selected to the conference's first team, Williams was named a second-team selection and Harrington and Skogsfors were named third-team honorees. It marks the first time in program history that more than two players have earned postseason accolades.
Ellie Garrison – Forward, Junior, Trinity, N.C.
Garrison has enjoyed a career year, leading App State to 11 wins, tying the most in a regular season in program history. The Trinity, N.C., native has set the App State single-season records for goals (12) and points (26), scoring nine times against Sun Belt opponents. Garrison's season has been highlighted by a hat trick at Georgia Southern on Oct. 8, when she became the seventh player in program history to achieve the feat. She also has tallied three other two-goal games and has enjoyed a two-assist effort. Garrison ranked among Sun Belt leaders in game-winning goals (five – second) goals (12 – tied for second), points (26 – tied for fourth), shots (63 – third) and shots on goal (30 – third) during the regular season. She has led the Mountaineers to their highest scoring season since 2013 with 31 goals as a team in the regular season.
Maddie Williams – Defender, Sophomore, Birmingham, England
Williams has played and started all 18 games this season, leading App State to a program-record 10 shutouts as the team has allowed the fewest regular-season goals in program history. Williams has played over 1,500 minutes on the back line, going all 90 minutes in 16 of 18 matches in the regular season. She also contributed offensively with an assist in the Mountaineers' wins over Campbell on Aug. 16 and Troy on Nov. 1 and scored her first goal in dramatic fashion with an 89
th minute equalizer at Arkansas State on Oct. 16.
Lucy Harrington – Defender, Sophomore, Mechanicsville, Va.
Harrington has been pivotal on both sides of the ball for App State this season. She helped lead the Mountaineers to a program-record 10 shutouts during the regular season, playing all 90 minutes in each of the first 16 games. Harrington earned Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week honors following a three-point effort against Gardner-Webb on Aug. 23 and made it back-to-back games with a goal after a tally against East Carolina on Aug. 27. Harrington has started 17 games on the season and finished the regular season with nine shots and five shots on goal in addition to her superb play on the back line.
Hanna Skogsfors – Goalkeeper, Sophomore, Taby, Sweden
Skogsfors has been integral in App State setting the program record for shutouts in a season. She ranked among the Sun Belt leaders in shutouts (eight – tied for first), goals-against average (0.67 – second) and save percentage (.784 – third) during the regular season. Her eight solo shutouts are tied for the most in program history, and she also has combined on two other clean sheets. Skogsfors became the first goalkeeper in program history to register a point on offense, tallying assists against Miami and Louisiana Tech. Skogsfors allowed just 11 goals across 1,485 minutes of play during the regular season. Overall, App State held its opponents to just 13 goals in 18 regular season games, the best mark in program history.
The group of all-conference selections led the Mountaineers to a record-setting regular season that featured a 10-match unbeaten streak, the most road wins in program history (seven), the most nonconference wins (five) since 2016 and an RPI of 66, the best since 2015.
Third-seeded App State will open Sun Belt Tournament play on Monday with a quarterfinal matchup against sixth-seeded Louisiana. Kickoff is set for noon ET, and the match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
