Bowman Set to Begin International Career in Canada

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State alum Kaleb Bowman is scheduled to begin an international baseball career Friday in Canada as a starting pitcher for the Fredericton Royals.

Situated along the Saint John River, Fredericton is the capital of New Brunswick, which is about 55 miles east of the United States/Canada border in Maine. The Royals compete in the five-team New Brunswick Senior Baseball League.

Bowman, who completed his App State career in May, plans to finish this season with the Royals and then travel to Australia to play winter league baseball.

Bowman is now sporting short hair, which had grown to 24 inches in length before he cut it in June with a plan to donate the long locks to Children with Hair Loss. He went 1,097 days between haircuts, partly to honor his mother, a two-time cancer survivor.

Bowman officially won the Sun Belt Conference ERA title as a senior with a 3.05 ERA over 62.0 innings. Those innings came in 27 appearances out of the bullpen, as he had a 6-2 record with four saves to finish his two-year career in Boone with an 8-2 mark.
