Plummer Named Third Team All-Sun Belt

NEW ORLEANS - Appalachian State University women's basketball junior Bayley Plummer was named Third-Team All-Sun Belt, as the league office announced postseason awards on Monday.

Plummer garners All-Sun Belt honors for the second straight season after being named all-third team in 2017-18.

The junior was one of the top inside forces in the Sun Belt, as her 12.1 rebounds per game lead the conference, while her 1.3 blocks per game are fourth in the league. Plummer registered 21 games with 10 or more rebounds and posted a league-high two games with at least 20 boards. She's the first player since Chastity Gooch (WKU) in 2012-13 to lead the conference in rebounding in consecutive seasons. Her rebounding average is the highest in the league since 1993-94 when Travesa Grant (Lamar) averaged 13.2 rebounds per game. Plummer is one of eight players in league history to lead the conference in rebounds in back-to-back years.

Also, the Thomasville, N.C. shattered the junior rebounding record, surpassing Valorie Whiteside's mark of 311 rebounds. Plummer now owns two of the single-season rebounding records for a class. She is fifth all-time with 877 rebounds and sixth in school history with 111 blocks. Plummer posted 10 or more rebounds in the Mountaineers' first 15 conference games, which is tied for the second-longest streak in the nation with Megan Gustafson of Iowa.

She has 10 games with at least 15 rebounds and one game with at least 15 points and 15 boards after a stellar performance of 16 points, 21 rebounds and three blocks in a home win over Marshall.

Plummer is 11th among the nation's active leaders in rebounds per game (9.6 rpg), while she is eighth in the country in rebounding.

The paint presence has become one of the key cogs for the Mountaineers' bounce-back season in which their 16-13 mark is the first winning record under Angel Elderkin. App State's nine-win improvement from last season is tied for the largest increase in the conference with Georgia State. App State doubled its conference win total with 10 victories en route to a fifth-place finish.

App State will play in the second round game of the Sun Belt Tournament against the winner of Coastal Carolina and Arkansas State on Wednesday at 12:30 pm ET/ 11:30 am CT at Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.
