Apps Hit Record-High Win Streak on Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NASHVILLE, TENN. – Appalachian State (9-4) recorded its longest win streak in program history with eight straight wins after defeating the Miami Redhawks 6-4 on Friday. The Apps followed with a 1-0 loss to Lipscomb Friday afternoon.

"We just never game up," head coach Shelly Hoerner said. "Our resilience was terrific in this game. We had strong pitching toward the end of the game. Kenzie did a great job keeping their hitters off balance, and we played some great defense; but the key was timely hitting.

"Hitting is contagious, and our energy is contagious. I'm excited for that win. It was really great for our confidence to continue," Hoerner said.

App State vs. Miami (OH) (W, 6-4)
Kenzie Longanecker (5-0) picked up her fifth win against the Redhawks. In her complete game, she struck out four batters and walked two. The Redhawks scored their only runs on a grand slam in the top of the third inning.

The Mountaineers made a serious comeback, scoring all six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Apps strung together six hits including singles from Caylie Kifer, Baylee Morton, Sidney Russell and Ally Walters. Keri White followed with a two-RBI triple that allowed the Mountaineers to take the lead.

App State vs. Lipscomb (L, 1-0)
App State kept it close with the Bison, falling 1-0 to break the eight-game win streak. Lipscomb scored their sole run when Morton threw down to second on a steal, and a bobble at the base allowed the runner on third to advance home.

The Apps' two hits came from White and Megan Walker. Both games were errorless for the Mountaineers, as the defense looks stronger than ever.

Sydney Holland collected a career-high five strikeouts as a Mountaineer, giving up only four hits with four walks. Her five strikeouts came one per inning in the first five innings of the game.

App State Softball would like to thank AutoStar Nissan of Boone for their contributions to the 2019 season.
