Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Decision to UNF

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's soccer (3-3-1) fell, 1-0, to North Florida (3-3-0) on Thursday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

Appalachian had its chances on Thursday evening with a 6-5 shot on goal advantage against UNF and a 16-11 edge in shot attempts. The lone difference in the game came in the first two minutes where UNF's Thais Reiss sent a shot that just barely went over the goalkeeper's head to give the Ospreys a 1-0 lead. 

Moments later, Blair Anderes and Molly Niewald had chances to tie it up early in the contest with a shot on goal but both were stopped. Anderes later fired away a shot at the frame but once again came up just short. 

The Mountaineers went into the break trailing 1-0. App had three great chances in the second period to tie things up. Inside the box at 53', Niewald once again looked for an opportunity to get the Black and Gold on the board. She fired away for her second shot on goal, but Rhiannon Connelly Conelley came up with the save. 

That was the trend for the App offense, who came in scoring at least three goals in its first three home contests. Anderes led the way with four shots while Niewald (three shots), Maggie Hanusek (three shots) and Kat Greer (two shots) followed suit. Jessica Easley and Greer also attempted a shot that was on frame. 

Lauren Burke earned her third start of the season playing the first period, while Taylor Ray played the second half. Burke finished the game with three saves and Ray with a stop.

The Mountaineers will look to bounce back on Saturday against Radford at 7 p.m. at Ted Mack to close out the weekend.
