BOONE, N.C. – Two second-half goals by Radford (3-1-1) doomed Appalachian State University women's soccer, 2-0, on Saturday evening.
App had its opportunities Saturday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex, tallying 10 total shots and five that were on goal. Although, Radford was able to find the back of the net twice within three minutes late in the match.
Eight Mountaineers were able to get a shot off tonight, with
Kat Greer (one on goal) and
Molly Niewald leading the way with two shots each.
Goalkeeper
Taylor Ray held firm in the net all game with five saves. A cross by Nelia Perez helped Radford get their first goal in the 71st minute and a deflection off an App defender at 73' that was poked in scored the second.
Both teams played to a 0-0 tie in a defensive battle in the first period. Greer's shot on goal came within the first minutes of the game while
Blair Anderes' shot on goal came midway through the stanza and
Audrey Emerson looked to get App on the board with her shot with five minutes left in the half.
Appalachian's next game will be back at home next Friday in their Sun Belt opener, where they will face the defending league champions South Alabama at 7 p.m. at Ted Mackorell.
