SAN MARCOS, Texas - Appalachian State University women's basketball (6-17, 4-8 SBC) suffered a 92-50 loss to Texas State (16-7, 9-3 SBC) on Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum.
Anna Perez Gomez scored a personal-high 12 points with four off the glass while playing a career-high 22 minutes and shooting 5-of-9 from the field. Gomez was aggressive getting to the rim as four of her five field goals were layups.
Nicola Mathews scored 10 points for her ninth game of the season in double figures and added a team-high five assists. It's the second game of the season for Mathews where she posted at least 10 points and five helpers.
Lainey Gosnell rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points, seven of which were from the charity stripe. Gosnell hit a personal-high seven free throws going 7-of-10 from the line.
Bayley Plummer led the Black and Gold with nine rebounds.
The Mountaineers started off hot hitting five of their first seven shots over the first 4:57 of the game after Mathews hit a 3-pointer to give App an 11-10 lead. However, the Apps went cold from the floor as it scored just two points over the final 6:03 of the opening frame, which led to a 24-13 lead for the hosts.
Appalachian improved on defense in the second quarter holding Texas State to 15 points but couldn't get any momentum going on the other end to close the gap. Texas State wouldn't look back the rest of the way, picking up a fourth straight win.
Four players scored in double figures for TXST with Toshua Leavitt recording 19 points App made it hard for the Bobcats' leading scorer to find her field goals, as she shot just 6-of-17.
App will look to bounce back next Saturday against Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m.
