MONTGOMERY, ALA. – Appalachian State softball falls to UT Martin on Sunday, Feb. 18. UT Martin's aggressive performance on offense allowed them to finish on top with a score of 7-2. App State finished the weekend 2-3, bringing their overall record to 3-6 this season.
Jenny Dodd hit the first single of the game for the Mountaineers with a hard ground ball through the left side, but she was left on base in the bottom of the first inning. The Apps' scored their two runs in the fourth inning, starting with a single from
Alisha Josey to the shortstop.
Baylee Morton reached on a fielder's choice but allowed UT Martin to throw
Gabby Buruato out at second base while pinch running for Josey. With Morton on first base,
Megan Walker slapped a hard one through the left side.
Ally Walters moved the runners into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt. A walk from pinch hitter,
Heather Josey, loaded the bases before
Keri White drove a grounder up the middle to score two.
Alexa Sells came in to pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh for
Sidney Russell and earned her first career hit with a shot down the left field foul line.
Kenzie Longanecker started in the circle for the Mountaineers followed by
Katie Williford in the fourth inning.
Callie Kuykendall entered the circle for the Apps in the top of the fifth and finished the game. The Mountaineer pitching staff allowed a total of eight hits for UT Martin in seven innings.
The Mountaineers continue next weekend in Greensboro, N.C. Their next game is Friday, Feb. 23 against Seton Hall at 12 p.m. noon.
