Postgame Notes From App State's Win At Texas State

POSTGAME NOTES
 
With the win, App State head coach Scott Satterfield improved his career record to 48-24, moving him into sole possession of third place for coaching victories at the school. Jerry Moore is first with 215 from 1989-2012, followed by E.C. Duggins at 57-25-3 from 1947-50 and 1952-55. Jim Brakefield went 47-48-4 from 1971-79.
 
The Mountaineers improved to 32-4 in their last 36 conference games and 16-3 in their last 19 conference road games.
 
App State has allowed single-digit points in six of its last eight games, and its opponents have totaled 14 second-half points in the Mountaineers' seven victories.
 
Texas State's longest play from scrimmage covered 15 yards. Through nine games, App State's defense has allowed only seven gains of at least 30 yards.
 
Texas State managed only seven points despite moving inside the App State 40 on six possessions. The Bobcats had drives end at the App State 33 (fumble), 39 (punt), 30 (turnover on downs), 4 (interception), end zone (touchdown) and 28 (turnover on downs).
 
App State limited Texas State to 218 total yards, including just 86 on on 31 rushing attempts. The Bobcats were able to move into App State territory frequently thanks to 196 yards on kickoff returns.
 
The Mountaineers have held five teams this season to less than 100 yards rushing, and it was their second straight game doing so after Coastal Carolina totaled 72 yards rushing last weekend.
 
App State had scoring drives of 13, 13 and 17 plays Saturday, and the 17-play drive that netted a field goal lasted 8:13. The Mountaineers' longest drive in the first eight games of this season was a 13-play, 95-yard drive that lasted 7:40 against South Alabama.
 
Senior safety and special teams standout Austin Exford has played in 37 career games and made the first two starts of his career the last two Saturdays. He recovered a fumble to end the first series at Texas State and finished with five tackles.
 
Making his second straight start, Chris Willis had a sack, a career-high four tackles and a quarterback pressure that forced an interception.
 
True freshman running back Camerun Peoples appeared in a game for the second time this season and scored his first career touchdown on a 9-yard run with 2:01 remaining. A 27-yard run helped him gain 42 yards on five fourth-quarter carries.
 
Defensive end Tommy Dawkins played for the first time this season, making his debut during Texas State's second offensive series.
 
The 79-yard touchdown was the longest run of sophomore Darrynton Evans' career, topping the 65-yard run he had against Louisiana earlier this season.
