Men's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Decision to Presbyterian

BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's soccer (7-4-3) suffered a 2-0 decision to Presbyterian (5-10) on Tuesday evening at Ted Mackorell Soccer Complex.

"Tough one tonight and disappointing on so many levels, which I take full responsibility for," head coach Jason O'Keefe said. "We have been resilient all year long and will need to continue that on Saturday."

App State held a 9-7 edge in shot attempts, but two of the shots were on goal.

Both teams came out attacking with four shots in the first 19 minutes of the contest.

Felix Kollmannthaler had an early attempt on a free kick in the 14th minute of the contest, but the strike on the frame was stopped by the PC goalkeeper.

Moments later, the Blue Hose took the lead when Jordan Barbara found the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Barbara scored once again 11 minutes later in the first period to take a 2-0 advantage.

Coming out of the half trailing 2-0, the Black and Gold came out with several shots to get back in the contest. However, the attempts weren't on frame.

The best opportunity for the Mountaineers came when Juan Hernandez slipped a perfect pass to Alex Hernandez before the freshman's shot was stopped by Jan Hoffelner.

App State also held an 11-3 edge in corner kicks. Jake Chasteen played all 90 minutes and posted three saves.

"Full credit to PC and their coaches as they played well and were better prepared than we were," O'Keefe continued. "We will recover and turn our focus on our last road game and Sun Belt play."

Appalachian will finish the regular season in Sun Belt action. It will travel to Statesboro to face Georgia Southern on Saturday at 7 p.m. in a pivotal matchup. Both teams are tied for second place in the league with four points.
