SAN MARCOS, Tex. -- The Appalachian State volleyball team fell to Sun Belt West Division leader Texas State 25-19, 25-22, 25-20 on Friday evening in Strahan Arena.
The Mountaineers drop to 13-6 and 5-2 in conference play on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 17-5 and 8-0 in Sun Belt action.
Emma Longley paced the App State offense with a team-high 12 kills and a .194 hitting mark.
Victoria Wilform added 11 kills and
Kara Spicer had 10.
Jana Owens dished out a career-high 20 assists, with
Becky Porter tallying 12.
Emma Reilly reached double figures in digs with 10.
The opening set saw Texas State build an early 10-3 lead on the Black and Gold en route to a 25-19 victory.
In the second frame, the Mountaineers took a 9-7 lead thanks to two Texas State miscues. But the Bobcats stormed back with six straight points to open a 13-9 lead and never trailed the rest of the way, taking the set 25-22.
App State jumped out to a 7-2 edge in Set 3. Texas State used a 6-1 run in the middle of the set to open a 18-15 advantage. The Mountaineers were unable to get any closer than three points during the remainder of the set, falling 25-20.
The Black and Gold posted 41 kills and hit .191 in the contest. The Bobcats, who entered the match as the top hitting team in the Sun Belt, recorded 44 kills and hit .344.
Appalachian State will have a quick turnaround and will be in action again on Saturday at UT Arlington at 7:30 p.m. EST.
