ARLINGTON, Tex. -- Appalachian State volleyball dropped a 25-19, 25-18, 25-14 decision at UT Arlington on Saturday evening.
Emma Longley tallied a team-high six kills for the Mountaineers (13-7, 5-3 SBC), while adding four digs.
Grace Morrison added five kills and
Melissa McMath finished with four.Â
Emma Reilly recorded a team-high 14 digs, with
Sydney Hinds chipping in with seven.
Jana Owens dished out 18 assists and added five digs for the Black and Gold.
A kill from
Daryn Armstrong in the opening set gave App State an early 5-4 advantage. The Mavericks (12-7, 6-3 SBC) responded and took a 10-7 lead, only to see the Mountaineers win the next five points to open a 12-10 advantage. From there, UTA would use a 10-1 run to build a 20-13 lead, eventually winning the opening frame 25-19.
The Mountaineers opened an early 2-1 lead in Set 2, but UT Arlington scored eight of the next nine points to take a 9-3 edge. App State would pull within five points at 14-9, but could get no closer, dropping the second frame 25-18.
In the third frame, the Mavericks raced out to a 11-2 lead and never looked back en route to 25-14 victory to complete the sweep.
Appalachian State will return to action on Friday, hosting Coastal Carolina inside the Holmes Center at 5 p.m. in a key Sun Belt East Division showdown.
