STATESBORO, GA. – Appalachian State volleyball defeats Georgia Southern for a second time this season on Friday, Nov. 3 in five sets (25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-13). App State is now 5-8 in Sun Belt play with a 10-17 overall record.
The Mountaineers started out strong with a 3-0 run in the first set. They carried this momentum throughout the set with the help of
Emma Longley and
Courtney Sullivan. The Mountaineers won the first 25-20.
In the second set, the Eagles barely scraped by to take it 23-25. The third set brought an early 5-0 run for the Mountaineers that brought the score to 6-3.
Cassidy Stephenson had three kills in the first eight points for App State. Despite the efforts of the Mountaineers, the Eagles came out on top 21-25 in the third set.
The Mountaineers came back to overcome the Eagles in the last two sets 25-20 and 15-13.
Emma Longley joined the leaderboard this weekend with 22 kills.
Courtney Sullivan stood out with 20 kills. Both
Ashlyn Brown and
Emma Reilly had 17 digs apiece, and
Ashlyn Brown had a total of 59 assists.
