BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State took down Georgia Southern in four sets on Sunday, Oct. 8 (25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 27-25).
App State started the first set off strong with a 3-0 run. Fighting to the end, the Mountaineers lost by a mere two points with a final score of 23-25.
Melissa McMath led the first set with seven kills.
Ashlyn Brown had 12 assists.
The Mountaineers came out with a vengeance in the second set. Starting behind, they turned the game around to remain in the lead from 6-7 onward. At one point in the match, leading by eight, the Mountaineers pushed through for the victory 25-20.
For the third, App State stayed ahead of Georgia Southern for the entirety of the set. A 7-0 run and a 4-0 run aided in the 21-25 victory for App State. 17 kills for the team ensured points during the third set thanks to
Melissa McMath,
Lexi Kohut and
Courtney Sullivan.
Set four was a back-and-forth battle between the Mountaineers and the Eagles. App State fell behind at 15-14 but regained the lead at 18-19 to hang on for a 27-25 victory.
App State is now 2-4 in SBC play and 7-13 overall.

Lexi Kohut led the team in kills this match, and
Ashlyn Brown dominated with 56 assists.
Cassidy Stephenson helped the team at the net while McMath and Kohut led in points for the Mountaineers.
The Mountaineers play their next match is Friday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Coastal Carolina. They will play Coastal Carolina again at the Holmes Center on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12:30 p.m.
