BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State volleyball took the victory from the Troy Trojans in five sets on Sunday, Oct. 29 (25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 15-17). With App State's win over Troy, their SBC record is now 4-8 bringing the overall record to 9-17.
A late 3-0 run secured the win in the first set for the Mountaineers.
Grace Morrison helped the Mountaineers come out on top in the first set with five kills.
Courtney Sullivan earned four kills, and
Lexi Kohut had four also.
App State answered Troy's start on top by tying it up at 4-4 and pushing forward with another point to bring it to 4-5. Troy held onto the lead from 11-11 onward to win the second set. The Mountaineers started the third set with a 3-0 run. Troy stole the third set, but App State answered with a win in the fourth set.
Grace Morrison and
Emma Longley each boosted the Mountaineers for points to win it 21-25.
In the fifth and final set, the Mountaineers secured the win after stealing the lead at 5-6. Troy regained it at 12-11, but App State ultimately took the match from the Trojans with an exciting 15-17 final set.
Standout performances for the Mountaineers included
Grace Morrison with 19 kills on the day,
Courtney Sullivan with 12, and
Lexi Kohut with ten.
Ashlyn Brown assisted the team with 47 assists and 16 digs while
Emma Reilly followed with 15 digs.
The Mountaineers will continue their season away as they travel to Georgia to play Georgia Southern on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. and Georgia State on Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
