BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State volleyball lost a close one to Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 15 (23-25, 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-13).
Appalachian State, now 2-6 in the Sun Belt, fell just behind Coastal Carolina in a close match.
Kara Spicer led the Mountaineers in kills on the day with 22.
Melissa McMath had 15 kills, and
Courtney Sullivan and
Lexi Kohut each had 11 kills.
Ashlyn Brown continued to lead in assists with 58, and
Olivia Loeffler had 21 digs.
A 5-0 run in the first set helped App State defeat the Chanticleers and bring the score to 17-21 before winning 23-25. A 4-0 and a 3-0 run aided their victory in the second set, staying ahead to win 22-25.
The Chanticleers fought back to take the third set from the Mountaineers, barely pulling ahead to bring the score to 27-25.
Coastal Carolina ultimately came out on top of the Mountaineers, but it took five sets to do so. App State will continue play on Friday, Oct. 20 at Louisiana at 7:30 p.m. before traveling to Monroe for a match on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. against ULM.
