POSTGAME NOTES

 

Team

• With the win, Appalachian State moved to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play.

• With one game to play (next Saturday at South Alabama), Appalachian State remains in contention for its first-ever Sun Belt championship. The Mountaineers are a half-game behind conference leader Arkansas State (7-3, 6-0 Sun Belt), which is playing at New Mexico State on Saturday afternoon and at home versus Texas State next Saturday.

• Appalachian State moved to 7-1 in its last eight games that immediately followed a regular-season bye.

• Appalachian State's nine wins are its most in a season since it finished 10-3 in 2010.

• Appalachian State capped a 5-1 record at home in 2015. The five home wins are its most since it went 6-1 at Kidd Brewer Stadium in 2011.

• Appalachian State won for the 15th time in its last 17 games overall and the 12th time in its last 13 Sun Belt games.

• Appalachian State moved to 2-0 all-time versus UL Lafayette. In the first-ever meeting between the two schools last Nov. 22 in Lafayette, La., the Mountaineers beat the Ragin' Cajuns, 35-16.

Individual

• On a nine-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, Appalachian State running back Marcus Cox surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the season and became the first student-athlete in school history to rush for 1,000 yards as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Cox finished the day with 78 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and has 1,069 yards and 8 touchdowns in 10 games this season.

• Freshman running back Jalin Moore's 54-yard touchdown run in the third quarter was a career-long and Appalachian State's fourth-longest rush this season.

• Moore finished with 104 yards on 13 carries, good for his second-straight 100-yard game. He ran for an Appalachian State freshman-record 244 yards on Nov. 14 at Idaho.

• Appalachian State walk-on tight end Michael Moll, a graduating fourth-year junior that elected to forego his final season of eligibility and was honored as part of Senior Day festivities, scored the first touchdown of his career on a two-yard catch in the fourth quarter.
