APPALACHIAN STATE 31, WYOMING 13
OCTOBER 3, 2015 • BOONE, N.C. (KIDD BREWER STADIUM)
POSTGAME NOTES
Team
• Appalachian State moved to 3-1 on the season. Wyoming fell to 0-5.
• Appalachian State won for the ninth time in its last 10 games.
• Appalachian State won its fifth-straight home game.
• In its first-ever non-conference home game against an NCAA Division I FBS opponent, Appalachian State collected its first-ever win over a member of the Mountain West Conference.
• For the third time in its last 11 games, Appalachian State scored on its first offensive play of the game when Marcus Cox's 59-yard touchdown run gave the Mountaineers a 7-0 lead just 19 seconds into the contest.
Individual
• Cox rushed for a season-high 178 yards on 15 carries (11.9 avg.).
• The 100-yard game was Cox's seventh-straight and 18th in 28 career games. His seven-straight 100-yard games are two shy of the school record for consecutive 100-yard rushing performances (9 – John Settle, 1986) and his 18 career 100-yard games are tied for fourth in school history (record: 22 – Settle, 1983-86).
• With Cox's 59-yard touchdown run in the opening quarter, the junior running back became just the sixth player in history to eclipse the 3,000-yard mark.
• Appalachian State sophomore cornerback Latrell Gibbs' first-quarter interception was his fourth in four games this season. He returned it 91 yards for a touchdown, which was the fifth-longest interception return in Appalachian State history and the longest since current App State senior Doug Middleton returned an interception 97 yards for a score against North Carolina A&T on Sept. 10, 2011.
• Gibbs' interception return for a touchdown was Appalachian State's first since Middleton's 52-yard TD return against Campbell on Sept. 6, 2014.
• Wyoming's Brian Hill (208 yds.) became the first opponent in 10 years to rush for 200 yards against Appalachian State. Chattanooga's Eldra Buckley was the last to accomplish the feat on Oct. 29, 2005. Appalachian State had not allowed an opponent to rush for 100 yards in 10 games, since Liberty's D.J. Abnar accomplished the feat with 129 yards on Oct. 11, 2014.
• In the fourth quarter, senior kicker Zach Matics hit a career-high 51-yard field goal that easily surpassed his previous high of 31 yards.
