ASU director of athletics Charlie Cobb:“Coach Buzz Peterson contacted me this morning to make me aware of his decision to resign as ASU's men's basketball head coach. We are incredibly disappointed with this development but wish him well. I am confident that we will find the right coach to continue winning games, meet our championship aspirations and develop a program that positively reflects our great University.”
Appalachian State University Chancellor Dr. Kenneth E. Peacock:“My good friend and colleague Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo at UNC Wilmington called me this morning to inform me that men's basketball coach Buzz Peterson had accepted a similar position at UNCW. I was surprised and disappointed to hear the news but I told her that she was getting a good basketball coach.
It was with great anticipation and hope for the future of Appalachian athletics that we welcomed Coach Peterson back into the ASU community a year ago and looked forward to him being a part of the fabric of the University and the High Country community for years to come. While we are disappointed with his resignation, we thank Coach Peterson for his efforts over the past 12 months and wish him, his wife Jan and their children all the best in the future.”
