DAYTON, Ohio - Winners of three-straight games, Appalachian State University men's basketball continues its three-game road trip with the first-ever meeting with Dayton.
The Mountaineers prevailed 65-52 at Robert Morris on Saturday to move to 7-4 on the season and snap the Colonials' 13-game home winning streak. ASU made 12-of-14 free throws down the stretch while RMU connected on just one of its final nine field goal attempts as the Apps turned a four-point advantage into the final 12-point margin of victory.
Donald Sims sank all six of his attempts over the stretch to improve to 47-of-49 on the season from the line, the fifth-highest mark in the country. The junior is also shooting 46.1 percent from downtown and his 17.5 points per game rank second in the Southern Conference.
Appalachian's win on Saturday was the seventh of the season. Dating back to 1970-71, it marks just the fourth time the Apps have had seven or more wins before the calendar flips to January. (ASU had 11 wins through December in 2006-07, when the squad won a program-record 25 games.)
Isaac Butts grabbed 11 rebounds against RMU to increase his season average to 8.8 per game, good for second in the SoCon. His 63.4 field goal percentage is also second-best in the league, and tied for 52nd in the nation.
