In June 2024, App State promoted App State Wrestling alum Randall Diabe to the role of head assistant coach. He became a full-time assistant in October 2020.
Diabe completed his App State Wrestling career in 2018-19 and made his coaching debut as a volunteer assistant for the Mountaineers in 2019-20, helping them go 9-3 overall, produce a school-record six NCAA qualifiers, post a Division I-best four shutouts and finish as one of only six teams that had all 10 starters post a winning record.
In 2021, App State set a school record with seven NCAA Championships qualifiers, including five who earned a top-20 seed and one All-American in Jonathan Millner (149 pounds). With five conference champions in 2021, the Mountaineers tied NC State and Arizona State for the lead in Division I wrestling.
In 2022, App State went 7-0 in SoCon duals despite having its full lineup available for just one conference dual and placed 28th at the NCAA Championships with five qualifiers, including one All-American.
That preceded a 2022-23 season in which App State swept a pair of SoCon titles and finished with a No. 20 national team ranking. In winning the tournament title in 2024, the Mountaineers had five individual champions, six finalists, eight top-three finishes and 10 top-four finishes while amassing 114.0 team points.
In 2023-24, the Mountaineers finished the season with a national dual-team ranking of No. 24, repeated as SoCon tournament champions and sent five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, with three posting top-16 finishes.
A two-time NCAA Championships qualifier, Diabe finished his competitive career in 2019 with a 77-48 record after being named All-Southern Conference at 197 pounds and earning an automatic NCAA berth thanks to his title at the SoCon Championship in Boone.
A native of Greensboro, N.C., Diabe went 26-7 as an App State senior and 14-1 in App State’s duals, including 14-0 against Division I programs. He went 5-0 in SoCon duals to go unbeaten for the second straight season, and entering the NCAA Championships, he was ranked No. 16 nationally by the NCAA Coaches’ Panel, No. 18 in the RPI and No. 13 by InterMat.
As a junior, Diabe was 20-9 at 197 pounds, and he had an undefeated Southern Conference record in duals (7-0) to earn all-conference recognition.
Diabe graduated from App State in December 2019 with a degree in health promotion and a minor in nutrition.
