Chanelle Hargreaves was named an assistant coach for the volleyball program in February of 2022.
In 2024, Hargreaves helped the Mountaineers to their first Sun Belt East Division title and appearance in the NIVC Tournament since the 2018 campaign. Additionally, App State went 18-10 (11-3 Sun Belt) and earned the East Division’s No. 1 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament, making the semifinal round for the first time since 2018. During the regular season, the Black and Gold won seven consecutive matches from Oct. 24 to Nov. 14 and recorded their first victories over James Madison since the Dukes joined the league and the first set of victories over Coastal Carolina since the 2018 campaign. The Mountaineers’ defensive specialists/libero unit averaged 14.1 digs per set, totaling 1,576 digs on the season under Hargreaves’ guidance. Kenady Roper came within three of reaching 1,000 career digs and averaged 3.14 digs per set during the 2024 season. Additionally, Roper notched a second consecutive season with double-figure digs in 20 matches.
In her second season coaching the Mountaineers, Hargreaves helped the Black and Gold to a 10-4 record at the Holmes Convocation Center, 10 sweeps on the season and nine consecutive wins from Aug. 25 to Sept. 9. Hargreaves guided the Mountaineers’ defensive specialists/liberos to an average 14.5 digs per set, totaling 1,581 over the course of the 2023 season. Roper finished among the top-10 in the Sun Belt in digs per set, averaging 3.91. Under Hargreaves’ guidance, Roper also recorded double-digit digs in 20 of her 25 appearances, to lead the team in digs, with a total of 352 on the year.
In her first season with the Mountaineers, Hargreaves helped the program to an 18-10 (11-5 Sun Belt) record. App State won 11 of its last 12 matches in the regular season, which was the best stretch of play for the Mountaineers since a program-tying 16 straight wins in 2015. The Mountaineers also went 9-2 at the Holmes Convocation Center and clinched seven five-set matches. Under Hargreaves’ direction, the Black and Gold’s defensive specialist/libero squad averaged 14.3 digs per set, totaling 1,633 during the 2022 campaign. Alyssa McBean ranked fifth in the league for aces in conference play and also broke the Sun Belt top-10 in the digs category, recording 211 digs on the season.
Hargreaves was a four-year defensive specialist at Florida from 2016-19. In her four seasons, she helped the Gators win three SEC titles and appear in the NCAA Tournament in all four seasons. As a sophomore in 2017, she played a part in Florida finishing as national runner up in the NCAA Tournament.
During her time with the Gators, she recorded 103 total digs and 42 service aces, including 19 as a freshman in 2016. She was named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll in both 2017 and 2019.
She earned her degree in sociology from Florida in May 2020 and received her Masters in sports management from Florida in May 2022. While working towards her masters, she worked with the Florida football program in recruiting and in student-athlete development.
