Appalachian State University women’s basketball head coach Angel Elderkin announced the hiring of Trevor Smith as the new director of basketball operations on July 20, 2016

Smith is entering his fourth season as the director operations. Since taking over as the director, his role as expanded more into social media and visual content, creating graphics for all social media platforms. He's contributed to women's basketball to being one of the most followed programs in the Sun Belt, where App is first in the league in Twitter followers and third in instagram followers. In addition, he's been at the forefront in marketing for the women's basketball program.

Smith brings energy and a hard-working pedigree to the women’s basketball program. Smith’s responsibilities will include booking flights, hotels, setting practices, film sessions and letting the student-athletes in the gym, sometimes even in the long hours of the night. 

The App State graduate’s work ethic is second to none as he’s worked with the football, men’s basketball, baseball and softball programs while earning his bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and a minor in community and regional planning all in the past year.

“We are really excited about the addition of Trevor to our women’s basketball program,” said head coach Angel Elderkin. ”His selfless work throughout our athletic department over the last two years did not go unnoticed and as an Appalachian State graduate, he brings us an unwavering passion for the Black and Gold. His energy, work ethic and organization will be an outstanding addition to our coaching staff.

In 2015 an equipment manager with football, Smith was in charge of cataloging, issuance and reclamation of football related clothing articles necessary to all student-athletes and staff in the program. He was also in charge of the home and away game day equipment operations, which included locker room setup, field set up and the press box.

In his time with men’s basketball, Smith led the underclassmen managers in delegating and completing various day-to-day tasks that were vital to the program, preparing the court for practices, issuing apparel and equipment, and various game day duties. Smith also acted as the visiting team liaison, coordinating open gyms and the delivery of game film to visiting staff. Additionally, Trevor traveled for away games in making sure practice areas and walk-through times were scheduled along with his normal duties. 

While with baseball and softball in the spring of 2015, Smith assisted with in-game promotions and logistical duties in the press box. 

In addition to his time working with the App State athletics department, Smith worked the Charlotte Hornets summer basketball camps and contracted game day production work for the ESPN College Gameday broadcasts during the 2014 football season. 

Trevor is an active member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association and will begin work towards his MBA while at Appalachian State. You can follow smith on Twitter @WTrevSmith.
