Roberts enters her third season as the recruiting coordinator at Appalachian State after spending four seasons at Elon.

The former student-athlete plays an intricate role in bringing in high-level talent while having major responsibilities in the offense and developing the guards.

Roberts played a part in bringing Kaila Craven, Jasmine Ogunjimi, Cydni Cole and Q. Murray in the mix while helping the Apps sign a stellar recruiting class for 2016-17.

The former college hooper continues to bring in top-notch talent to Appalachian, and helping the Black and Gold compete for Sun Belt Conference titles.

“We are really excited about the addition of Emily Roberts to our Appalachian State women’s basketball family,” said head coach Angel Elderkin. “Emily is a tremendous recruiter and will impact our program immediately with her recruiting efforts. She is excellent at building relationships and is a perfect fit for Appalachian State.”

Roberts was hired as the women’s basketball director of operations during the 2011-12 season before being promoted to assistant coach in the spring of 2012. While at Elon, the basketball team gathered a 36-22 Southern Conference record, while making it to the second round of the WNIT tournament in 2012.

Prior to Elon, Roberts served as the video coordinator with the Memphis women’s basketball program during the 2010-11 season, preparing opponent game film and practice film for the team.

In 2006, Roberts accepted a coaching position at Cedar Ridge High School as the girl’s varsity assistant coach and head JV basketball coach. After two seasons at Cedar Ridge, Roberts was promoted to assistant athletic director, overseeing all of the Cedar Ridge athletic programs.

She left Cedar Ridge in 2008 to become the assistant boy’s basketball coach at Cressent Christian Academy in Durham, N.C. 

Roberts played basketball at UNC Wilmington from 2002-2005, graduating with a degree in communication studies in just three years. She is a native of McBee, S.C.
