Courtney Ogle was named assistant coach of the App State Softball program on June 16, 2025, after serving as the program's Director of Operations in 2025. She enters her third season at App State in 2026 and her second season as assistant coach.
Ogle's first season as an assistant coach for the Mountaineers saw them tally 29 wins, their most since 2022, and a winning percentage of .500 or better for the first time since that same season. App State's .580 win percentage marked its highest since tallying a .586 win percentage in 2021. App State got out to its best start in program history (8-0), while also posting two win streaks of seven or more games for the first time in program history.
The Mountaineers also set several records on offense in Ogle's first season as an assistant coach, as they broke their single-season records for home runs (77), runs scored (349), batting average (.305) on-base percentage (.404) and slugging percentage (.536). App State also won 21 nonconference games, which is a program record, and led the Sun Belt Conference in six categories in 2026.
The App State catchers continued their stellar work in 2026 under Ogle's guidance, as the duo of Leah Gore and Marti Henkel combined to throw out nine would-be base stealers. Gore gunned down eight of those nine runners, which ranked as the eighth-most in the Sun Belt Conference. Gore also tallied a .985 fielding percentage in 2026, which ranked as the 22nd-highest in the league.
Both Makayla McClain and Grace Barrett took home All-Sun Belt honors in 2026, with McClain being named to the first team and Barrett garnering second-team honors. In two seasons at App State, Ogle has helped coach three different All-Sun Belt players. Additionally, both Barrett and McClain were named to the NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team on May 14, marking the first time in program history that App State has seen two players be named All-Region.
In addition to her duties as the Director of Softball Operations, Ogle works with the App State catchers. The catching group of Marti Henkel and Leah Gore helped guide the Mountaineer pitching staff to three shutouts and 16 complete games in 2025. The duo also combined to throw out nine would-be base-stealers in Ogle's first season, while also letting just three passed balls get through them.
Henkel finished the season with just one error and a .994 fielding percentage on 157 chances. Her .994 fielding percentage was tied for the third-highest mark in the Sun Belt Conference.
Ogle came to Boone after spending the 2024 season at Alvin Community College where she served as an assistant coach for the Dolphins. She helped lead the Dolphins to 13 Conference wins in 2024 and a win in the Region XIV Tournament over Bossier Parrish CC.
“Courtney is going to be a huge asset to our program, and we are excited to have her join the Mountaineer family,” Jones said. “She exudes the core values of our university, athletic department and softball program. Her experiences as a student-athlete, graduate assistant and assistant coach at the collegiate level will be extremely valuable for our day-to-day operations.
Her time spent with Team USA and Athletes Unlimited this summer will give her valuable experiences and help grow and develop her coaching mindset. We are excited to follow along prior to her arrival in Boone.”
Before her time at Alvin, Ogle spent a year at Washington under head coach Heather Tarr, serving as a graduate assistant. She oversaw daily coaching duties as well as game day operations for the Huskies.
While at Washington, Ogle helped lead the Huskies to 44 wins, 14 of which were over ranked opponents, and a Women’s College World Series appearance. She becomes the third member of the Mountaineer coaching staff who has coached in the WCWS, joining Matt Alberghini and Jones.
“I am blessed and grateful beyond measure to have the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing staff in an amazing place,” Ogle said. “The support, drive and passion from the people at App State are top tier and there is no doubt in my mind that this is the perfect place to be.
Coach Whit is exactly the type of person I want to work for and I can’t wait to witness all of the incredible things that are going to be happening in Boone.”
A 2022 graduate of the University of Texas-Arlington, Ogle spent three years with the Mavericks’ softball program, playing 77 games at catcher and designated hitter. While there, Ogle was coached by Alberghini, who served as an assistant coach at UTA before coming to App State.
In 2022, Ogle was named an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete and was UTA softball’s representative and campus leader for the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
Ogle began her playing career at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas, where she appeared in 71 games over two years. She helped the team to a program-best 23-1 conference record her sophomore year and participated in two NJCAA Regionals in her career as a Buccaneer. Her sophomore year at Blinn saw her bash a team-high seven homers and 19 extra-base hits.
A native of Austin, Texas, Ogle graduated from UTA with a degree in Clinical Health and earned her master’s degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from Washington in 2023. She is the daughter of Don and Karen Ogle.
