Wilbur Allen was named as an assistant coach at Appalachian State in the summer of 2018 and is in his first season with the Black and Gold.
Allen joins the Mountaineers after serving as the coordinator of player development at Ole Miss for the 2017-18 season. In this role, he was responsible for film of potential prospects, preparing game plans and working with players regarding academic progress and off-court development. He also served as an assistant coach on an interim basis for eight games.
Allen was a graduate assistant at Ole Miss for the 2016-17 season. Prior to Ole Miss, he served as the head coach at the NBA YAOÂ School in Beijing City, China.
He began his coaching career at the famed Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Allen was the associate head coach from 2008 to 2013. While with the Warriors, he coached four current NBA players in Ben McLemore, Sindarius Thornwell, Troy Williams and current NBA champion Quinn Cook. He also coached two first round picks in Jordan Adams (22nd pick in 2014 NBA draft) and McLemore (seventh pick in 2013 NBA draft). In the 2011-12 season, Allen helped guide the Warriors to a perfect 44-0 record, which resulted in the schools eighth national championship.
Allen graduated from Temple in 2006 with a bachelor of business administration in international business and marketing. He was also a four-year letterwinner on the Owls basketball team.
