Shane Nelson joined the App State athletic department as an intern equipment manager in 2016. He was promoted to Director of Team Services in 2018, and has since been elevated to Director of Football Equipment. 

Nelson is certified through the Athletic Equipment Manager Association (AEMA).

Prior to joining the Mountaineers, Nelson worked in a similar capacity at the University of Nevada. He also was an equipment intern an an undergrad at the University of South Carolina, working closely with the Gamecocks football team.

Nelson and his fiancé, Alex, have a son, Damian.
