During the summer of 2020, App State added Darnell Laws to its football staff as an offensive graduate assistant.
 
Laws spent the 2019 season as a quality control assistant for defense and special teams at the University of Delaware. He was also an analytics coordinator for the Blue Hens.
 
Laws played running back and fullback at William & Mary from 2010-14 and graduated in May 2015 with a bachelor of arts in economics. As a player, he was a two-time all-conference pick and two-year starter. He won a conference title as a freshman and had a prominent role in the Leadership Council.
 
Before entering the coaching profession, Laws worked as an account executive in Philadelphia and as a sales/operations manager in Chicago.
