Biography

One of only five fifth-year seniors on the team, Bailey serves as a leader on and off the field ... came to Appalachian State as a defensive end but has made his mark at tight end ... is team’s best blocking tight end and is a valuable asset both in the run game and in pass protection ... despite not catching any passes in limited action last year, is also a proven threat in the receiving game with nine receptions and four touchdown catches as a sophomore in 2012 ... is expected to split time and see the field in two-tight end sets with Barrett Burns this season.

2013: Was limited to just six games and one start due to head injuries ... appeared in the first four games of the season, including a start in the home opener against North Carolina A&T ... split time with Josh Anding and Barrett Burns, serving primarily as a blocker ... did not catch any passes in limited playing time.

2012: In his first full season at the position, started all 10-of-12 games at tight end (only non-starts came when Appalachian State opened in a no-tight-end set) … ranked sixth on the team with nine receptions and 123 receiving yards … tied for second on the squad with four touchdown catches … made at least one catch in eight of Appalachian’s 12 games … caught at least one pass in each of the first three games of the season … made one of Appalachian’s best catches of the season with a diving reception for a 23-yard touchdown (the first of his career) versus Coastal Carolina … hauled in a 16-yard touchdown at Western Carolina … had a season-high two receptions — including a seven-yard touchdown catch from wideout Andrew Peacock — in Southern Conference title-clinching win over Furman in the regular-season finale … had a 10-yard touchdown reception in NCAA Division I Football Championship second-round loss to Illinois State.

2011: Saw action in eight games, primarily as a member of kickoff return unit  … did not record any statistics.

2010: Redshirted.

High School: Rated as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com ... was a dominant defensive end at South Carolina prep powerhouse Dorman ... recorded 279 tackles over his final two seasons, including 116 stops, 14 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery as a senior ... helped lead squad to a 13-1 record and the South Carolina 4A Division I state championship as a senior ... had seven tackles, one-and-a-half tackles for loss and a sack in 28-17 victory over national-power Byrnes in the 2009 state title game ... participated in 2009 North Carolina-South Carolina Shrine Bowl ... named all-area after recording 163 tackles as a junior ... coached by Dave Gutshall ... attended same high school as current Appalachian State teammate Brandon Pinckney.
