Taylor Cornett is in his second season as a graduate assistant at Appalachian State. After assisting with Appalachian’s defense in 2014, he moves to the offensive side of the ball and will serve as the Mountaineers’ tight ends coach in 2015 while continuing to pursue a master’s degree in educational media.

Cornett came to Appalachian State from Brevard, where he coached wide receivers, tight ends and special teams in 2013. The Tornadoes’ led the South Atlantic Conference in kick-return yardage under Cornett’s tutelage.

He was promoted to offensive line coach at Brevard in 2014 before accepting the position at App State.

Cornett began his coaching career at West Port High School in Ocala, Fla., where he served as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator in 2011-12. He also coached the offensive line during his two-year stint at the high-school level.

Cornett became familiar with Appalachian State during his four-year playing career at former Southern Conference rival The Citadel. He was a two-time all-conference tight end for the Bulldogs and graduated from The Citadel with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2009.

A Columbia, S.C. native, Cornett graduated from Dutch Fork H.S.
