Biography

2008: Appeared in 18 games, making seven starts ... transitioned from full-time reliever to mid-week starter midway through the year, finishing the year with a 5-3 record ... struggled in early-season relief role, posting a 9.82 ERA through his first eight outings of the season ... the transition to starter immediately paid dividends, as he scattered six hits and a run over a career-high seven innings of work versus High Point (March 25) for his first win of the season ... the win over HPU was the first of five quality starts in a row ... during that stretch, he won starts versus UNC Asheville (April 1), UNC Upstate (April 8) and Gardner-Webb (April 23) and was the tough-luck loser in a 2-1 contest at East Tennessee State (April 16) ... he suffered his third setback in a rare mid-week conference tilt start at Elon (April 30) but rebounded to top UNC Asheville (May 13) in his final start of the season ... aside from his first start versus High Point and the 2.1-inning outing against Elon, he struck out at least four batters in each of his starts, including seven apiece in April tilts against Gardner-Webb and UNCA ... after the transition to the starting rotation, the results also improved as a reliever, as he allowed just one run in 4.2 innings of work out of the bullpen during weekend series ... turned heads in the summer by posting a 7-1 record and 1.31 ERA in 15 relief appearances to lead the Anchorage Glacier Pilots to their first-ever Alaska Baseball League (collegiate wooden bat league) title ... he allowed just six earned runs on 29 hits while striking out 34 and walking just nine in 41.1 innings in the prestigious ABL ... he was named the Pilots’ MVP and earned ABL all-star recognition.

2007: Ranked third on squad with 26 appearances on the season, all in relief ... recorded a 2-3 record ... did not surrender a run in half of his 26 outings ... right-hander was unusually tough against left-handed hitters, holding southpaws to a miniscule .214 average on the season (9-of-42) ... picked up first win of the season with a perfect innning in 9-7 come-from-behind win over Wofford (March 23) ... the triumph over Wofford began a string of seven-straight scoreless appearances, spanning 10-consecutive innings ... earned second win of the campaign by striking out three and allowing just one run in two innings of work against UNC Asheville (May 2) ... put zeroes on the scoreboard in four of his final seven outings of the season.

2006: Emerged as perhaps the team’s top right-handed option out of the bullpen ... appeared in 25 games, good for second on the team and tied for eighth in school history at the time ... tied for second on squad with four wins (most by a non-starter) ... 48 innings pitched were a team high for a reliever ... tossed season high-tying 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn first-career win in 13-inning victory over Gardner-Webb (Feb. 21) ... collected second win with 3.2 scoreless innings versus Canisius (March 11) ... also claimed wins versus N.C. A&T (April 18) and Davidson (May 18) ... posted two scoreless innings in 3-2 loss at N.C. A&T (March 15) ... tossed two scoreless innings in SoCon Tournament loss to Georgia Southern (May 25).

High School: A two-time all-conference selection at Wakefield H.S. in Raleigh ... named team MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior ... posted a 2.30 ERA as a junior, followed by a miniscule 1.90 ERA as a senior and held a better than 5-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio ... also hit .435 as a prep ... played with current ASU teammates Josh Dowdy and Taylor Miller ... coached by Ed Hall ... an academic all-conference honoree ... participated in the 2004 State Games.

Personal: Full name is Zachary David Quate ... born Sept. 12, 1987 (21 years old) ... son of Cathy and Rusty Quate ... enjoys wakeboarding, dirt-biking and fishing ... majoring in business marketing.
