ATHENS, Ohio — The App State field hockey team suffered its first conference loss of the season on Friday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Ohio.

Sophomore Carlotta Fabian scored the lone goal for the Mountaineers (5-4, 1-1 MAC), marking the Berlin, Germany native's first collegiate goal.

Despite holding a 10-7 advantage in total shots, App State conceded six shots on goal to Ohio's (3-4, 1-1 MAC) three, forcing four saves from senior goalkeeper Dakota Anderson.

How it Happened
1st: The Mountaineers struck first on a penalty corner, as Fabian inserted the ball, took a return pass from Shaffer, and slotted her shot past the goalkeeper. App State generated three penalty corners in the frame, holding much of the possession early.

2nd: App State maintained the momentum through the second period, continuing to control the pace of play. Ohio created a quality scoring opportunity on a breakaway, but Anderson turned away the shot on goal to preserve the 1-0 advantage entering halftime.

3rd: The Bobcats mounted a response after the intermission, converting a pair of third-quarter penalty corners into goals to erase the deficit and take a 2-1 lead into the final period.

4th: The Mountaineers applied heavy pressure in the closing frame, outshooting Ohio 4-0 and earning two penalty corners, but were unable to convert their remaining chances before time expired.
