BOONE, N.C. — Senior goalkeeper Dakota Anderson registered a career-high 21 saves, but the App State field hockey team fell 6-0 to No. 6 Wake Forest on Sunday at Dr. Jan C. Watson Field at the Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field Hockey Complex.

Anderson, the reigning two-time Mid-American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, served as the primary highlight for the Mountaineers (4-2). Her 21-save performance against the Demon Deacons (4-1) brought her season total to 48 saves through six games.

App State held firm defensively in the first half behind Anderson's effort in the cage, limiting the nationally ranked Demon Deacons to just a single score heading into the halftime break.

How it Happened
1st: The Mountaineers held Wake Forest scoreless for nearly the entire period, thwarting four penalty corners. The Demon Deacons finally broke through in the final minute of the frame to take a 1-0 lead. Anderson turned away three shots in the opening quarter.

2nd: App State kept the deficit at one through the middle frame. The defensive unit successfully turned away three Wake Forest penalty corners, while Anderson logged four additional saves to head into the locker room down 1-0.

3rd: Wake Forest struck 71 seconds into the second half to double its lead to 2-0. Anderson faced heavy pressure throughout the period, making eight saves and helping defend eight Demon Deacon penalty corners. Wake Forest added two late goals in the frame to take a 4-0 advantage into the final quarter.

4th: The Demon Deacons added two final goals in the closing period to seal the victory. Anderson posted seven saves in the final 15 minutes to reach her total of 21, just six shy of her overall save total across the first five games of the season combined.
