BOONE, N.C. — App State Women's Basketball has announced its complete schedule for the 2026-27 season, in conjunction with the Sun Belt Conference's release Thursday of league matchups for the upcoming season.
Directed by head coach Alaura Sharp, the Mountaineers will host 15 games at the Holmes Convocation Center and face three Power 4 opponents on the road in nonconference action.
Game times and ticket information will be released at a later date.
"We are excited for this season and are looking forward to a competitive nonconference schedule," Sharp said. "We have compiled a challenging road schedule and will host several top programs at home. The goal was to have a difficult schedule to learn about our team in November to prepare for a tough Sun Belt Conference."
The Mountaineers will open the season Nov. 2 on the road in Ypsilanti, Mich., in the first game of the MAC-SBC Challenge, taking on Eastern Michigan for the first time in program history.
Following that road matchup, the Mountaineers will return to the High Country for their home opener against Montreat College on Nov. 4 before hitting the road for the next four games.
The four-game stretch kicks off Nov. 11 against Davidson, a team that is coming off its first 20-win season since the 2012-13 season. The Mountaineers will then travel to White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., for the Greenbrier Classic on Nov. 14, when they will take on Northwestern, marking the first matchup between the Mountaineers and Wildcats.
The Mountaineers will then take on their first of two ACC opponents in Wake Forest on Nov. 19 in Winston-Salem, marking the first intrastate matchup between the Mountaineers and Demon Deacons since the 2017-18 season. Wake Forest made an appearance in the WNIT last season.
To close out the road stretch, the Mountaineers will face Norfolk State on Nov. 23 before returning to the High Country for a round-robin tournament featuring UNCA and Western Carolina on Nov. 27 and 28, respectively.
To open December, the Mountaineers will take on another in-state foe in Elon on Dec. 2 before facing Virginia Tech on Dec. 9 in the first installment of a three-game series. The Hokies are coming off their second 20-plus-win season in three years, making the 2026 NCAA Tournament before falling to Oregon in the opening round.
In the second of three home games in December, the Mountaineers for the first time in program history will host Florida Gulf Coast University for Luau Day on Dec. 12.
App State will open Sun Belt Conference play against Marshall in Huntington, W. Va., on Dec. 16 before returning to Boone for two straight games, hosting new Sun Belt member Louisiana Tech on Dec. 19 with Basketball Bingo before closing out the initial nonconference slate against Carolina University on Dec. 22. To close out the 2026 calendar year, the Mountaineers return to conference play to take on Southern Miss on the road in Hattiesburg, Miss., in a New Year's Eve matchup. The Mountaineers defeated the Golden Eagles during the 2025-26 campaign by an 82-59 count in Boone.
To open 2027, the Mountaineers remain on the road to take on South Alabama on Jan. 2 before returning to the High Country for a four-game homestand. Starting Jan. 7, App State will take on ULM on Jan. 7 for Education Day, Arkansas State on Jan. 9 for Heroes Day and Old Dominion on Jan. 14 for Y2K Night before closing the homestand against Georgia State for Alumni Day.
After making a stop in Troy, Ala., for a Jan. 23 matchup against Troy, the Mountaineers will then return to Boone for the next two games, facing off against Georgia Southern for Student Org Night on Jan. 28 before having the Pink Game in the second matchup against Marshall on Jan. 30.
Following a road trip to Conway, S.C., to take on Coastal Carolina on Feb. 3, the Mountaineers will play their last three home games, beginning with the second leg of the MAC-SBC Challenge with an opponent to be announced at a later date. The Black & Gold will play their first matchup against JMU on Feb. 10 for the Blackout Game before closing out the home slate on Feb. 13 against Coastal Carolina for Senior Day.
The Mountaineers will spend the last four games of the season on the road in second matchups against Sun Belt opponents from the eastern side: at Georgia State on Feb. 17, at Old Dominion on Feb. 20, at Georgia Southern on Feb. 23 and the regular season finale at JMU on Feb. 26.
The 2027 Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Championship will take place from March 2-8 in Pensacola, Fla., with all 14 teams eligible for the tournament and the winner earning an NCAA Tournament berth.
