NEW ORLEANS – App State Soccer sophomore defender
Lucy Harrington has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Harrington enjoyed a career day on Sunday in App State's 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb. The Mechanicsville, Va., native assisted on the Mountaineers' first goal of the match and less than 10 minutes later scored a goal of her own – the first of her career – to cap a career-high three-point effort.
Harrington has played all 90 minutes in each of the Mountaineers' four matches this season, leading the team to back-to-back shutouts and a 1-0-1 week. Despite her position as a center back, Harrington leads the team with two assists and is tied for the team lead with four points on the campaign.
Last season, Harrington appeared in 13 matches, making eight starts on defense as a true freshman. She started each of the final seven contests of the season, playing 90 minutes in six of those contests.
Harrington is the first Mountaineer to earn a Sun Belt weekly honor since
Ellie Garrison was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week following game-winning goals against Western Carolina and Miami in the first week of the 2025 campaign.
App State Soccer will be back in action on Thursday, when the team travels to face East Carolina at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers will then return to Boone on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against William & Mary. The team will celebrate senior day with a pregame ceremony beginning at 12:20 p.m.
