Duval Makes History With First NCAA Berth for Women's Golf

BOONE, N.C. — App State Women's Golf freshman Zoe Duval made history Wednesday, becoming the program's first NCAA Regional qualifier.

The NCAA announced team and individual participants Wednesday, with the top Division I players from non-qualifying teams in contention for 36 individual spots nationally. In addition to 12 team entries per site, each of the six regionals have six individual participants, and Duval was selected for the Chapel Hill Regional that will be held May 11-13 at the UNC Finley Golf Course.

Duval, a native of Cumming, Ga., has posted two first-place individual finishes and six top-five finishes in 11 tournaments during the 2025-26 season. She ended the fall schedule as the co-medalist at the Terrier Intercollegiate and won an outright title at the Babs Steffens Invitational in late February, posting a 7-under total of 69-69-68—206 that broke the 54-hole program record she had established earlier in the season.

Duval had two more rounds of 69 over 54 holes en route to a tie for fifth place at the Sun Belt Championship tournament last week. She completed that event with a scoring average of 73.09 over 33 rounds, with 13 rounds at even par or better.

"I'm so proud of Zoe and this opportunity she has earned," second-year App State head coach Chan Metts said. "At-large bids are difficult to come by in our sport. To see a player's hard work get rewarded is one of the most satisfying things as a coach. What Zoe has done to help elevate our program this year is awesome. We still have golf to play, and we get to take the 'A' to new places."

In the top 175 during her first collegiate season, Duval is currently ranked No. 219 among Division I women's golfers, putting her in the top 40 among golfers from outside the power conferences.

Nineteen individuals received at-large regional berths, in addition to the automatically qualified conference medalists from schools that didn't earn team berths. Duval received the last at-large individual berth, after No. 206 Eva Pett of San Francisco received the second-to-last berth, with No. 221 Carmen Lim from Washington being the first individual on the outside of the bubble.

From each regional site, the top five teams (30 teams total) and the low individual not on an advancing team (six individuals total) will advance to compete in the NCAA Championships to be played May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

App State's 2025-26 season is presented by Hound Ears Club.
