App State Tennis Cruises Past Catamounts for Second Straight Win

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team defeated Western Carolina 6-1 on Saturday to secure its second consecutive victory.

The Mountaineers (2-2) cruised to the win as the Catamounts (0-4) traveled with only four players, forfeiting matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

How It Happened
App State opened the match by clinching the doubles point on Court 1. Naledi Manyube and Taya Powell won the only doubles match required to secure the point, as Western Carolina was unable to field a third doubles team.

Entering singles play with a 3-0 lead, the Mountaineers maintained the pressure. Allegra Hodson clinched the overall team victory with a straight-sets win at the No. 3 spot. Despite a competitive second set that was tied at 4-4, Hodson won two consecutive games to seal the match.

With the team win decided, Manyube extended the Mountaineer lead to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Powell fell on Court 1 in a closely contested match, providing the Catamounts' lone point of the afternoon. Ruby Broadbent rounded out the scoring for App State, winning decisively at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3.
