App State Football Hosts Georgia State on Heroes Day

BOONE, N.C. — App State Football begins the final month of the regular season with a Heroes Day home game against Georgia State on Saturday in Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Kickoff at The Rock is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., with the game being streamed on ESPN+.

App State (5-3, 2-2 Sun Belt) seeks a sixth victory this season to clinch bowl eligibility and a 13th victory in the series against Georgia State, which has never beaten the Mountaineers.

Six of App State's eight games this season have been one-score affairs inside the final two minutes, and the Mountaineers have a 3-0 record in games decided by three points thanks to wins against East Carolina, Coastal Carolina and James Madison. Of the 10 home games App State has played since Dowell Loggains took over as head coach before the 2025 season, nine of those have been decided by eight points or less, with a 55-3 win against Maine in the 2026 opener being the lone exception.

Georgia State (4-4, 1-3) opened this season with a 4-1 record, capping that stretch with a 42-10 home victory against Old Dominion in a Sun Belt Conference opener, but the Panthers have dropped their last three league games against James Madison (49-22), Arkansas State (38-32) and Coastal Carolina (31-20).

Standout quarterback Cameran Brown missed the Coastal Carolina game due to injury and is listed as out for this weekend, meaning the likely starter is Ayden Pereira, who completed 20 of 37 passes for 200 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions against Coastal. The 5-foot-11 Pereira is a fifth-year quarterback who played at Merrimack before transferring to Georgia State before this season.

The Panthers' defense is led by 6-4, 270-pound defensive end Jabriel Rhodes-Nelson, who has 5.0 sacks this season.
