BOONE, N.C. — App State running back
Jaquari Lewis has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after exploding for four touchdowns in the Mountaineers' 35-32 win at Coastal Carolina.
A sophomore from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lewis became the third App State back to score four rushing touchdowns in a game during the program's FBS era, rushing for a season-high 85 yards on 13 carries and adding a pair of catches for 22 yards. It was the most rushing scores by a Mountaineer since Cam Peoples' school record-tying five in the 2020 Myrtle Beach Bowl, also in Brooks Stadium.
Lewis' four scores in the back-and-forth contest tied the game at 7-7, gave App State a 14-7 lead, pulled the Mountaineers to within three at 24-21, and regained the lead at 28-24.
App State's offense enjoyed its most points (35), total yards (516) and rushing yards (253) against an FBS opponent this season against the Chanticleers.
Lewis and the Mountaineers host James Madison this Thursday (7 p.m., ESPNU) in a sold-out game at The Rock.
