POSTGAME NOTES: Old Dominion 10, App State 3
Â
After three straight wins to open the season, App State dropped its second straight contests.
Â
The Mountaineers lost their Sun Belt opener for the third straight season.
Â
App State leads the all-time series with Old Dominion 4-3. The Monarchs have won three of the last four contests after the Mountaineers won each of the first three from 2015-22.
Â
The 0-0 halftime score marked the first time that had happened since the 2016 game vs. Georgia State (which App State won 17-3).
Â
In a driving rain with gusty winds from Hurricane Isaias, there were six total turnovers in the game (three for each team), including three in a 25-second, four-play span to close the second quarter.
Â
Ja'Cari Henderson made his first career start as a cornerback.

DEFENSE
Â
App State's defense limited ODU to 304 total yards (97 passing), while compiling three sacks and a season-high 11 tackles for loss.

Â
Team captain linebacker
Colton Phares tied a career high with 12 tackles, including 1.5 TFLs and 0.5 sack.
Â
One of the game's signature plays came with ODU driving late in the second quarter.
Aiden Benton forced a fumble at the sideline, where an athletic
Devin Henderson tipped it in-bounds to be recovered by Clark. Three players later, following a Mountaineer turnover,
Devin Henderson intercepted a last-second Hail Mary heave to close the half.
Â
Juan Berchal snagged App State's second interception midway through the third quarter, again with the Monarchs driving into App State territory.
