Mountaineers Earn Record-Setting 16th Win, Shut Out Georgia State

BOONE, N.C. — The App State tennis team extended its winning streak to nine with a 4-0 sweep of Georgia State on Saturday.

With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 16 victories on the season, the most in program history, surpassing the previous record of 15 set in both 2019 and 2024.

What Happened
The Mountaineers (16-5, 8-2 SBC) opened the match by clinching a tightly contested doubles point. Despite a loss on court one to the Panthers (5-12, 4-5 SBC), Ruby Broadbent and Naledi Manyube secured the first doubles win for App State. Alexi Cleveland and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey rallied from a 2-3 deficit to claim a 6-4 win on No. 3, giving the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.

In singles action, Manyube carried the momentum with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set win on court 2. Tied at 3-3 in the second set, she pulled away to deliver the first singles point of the day. Her singles record improved to 13-2, including an 8-1 mark from the No. 2 position.

Savannah Dada-Mascoll followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory on court 1, giving the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead. She led nearly the entire match in both sets, notching her eighth consecutive singles win and improving her season record to 16-2.

Ryan-Bovey sealed the match for App State, clinching the fourth and final point. After taking the first set with ease, she built a commanding 5-2 lead in the second. Despite a late push from her opponent, she closed it out with a 6-4 win. She extended her singles win streak to eight matches, improving her season record to 10-5.

Matches on courts 4, 5 and 6—featuring Taya Powell, Cleveland and Broadbent—went unfinished after the match was clinched.
