Mountaineer Men Place First, Women Secure Second at Firetower Project Run

BOONE, N.C.  – The App State men's and women's cross country teams finished first and second, respectively in the team standings at the Firetower Project Run on Friday. The men's team scored a season low 23 points, while the women scored 81 points.
 
Sophomore Aaron Kidd set pace in the men's 8K, clocking a time of 24:37.2 to finish first overall. His time was six seconds shy of his personal best of 24:31.2 (set in 2024). Five Mountaineers joined Kidd in the top 10, placing fourth through eighth. Sophomore Noah Martinson clocked an 8K personal best of 24:54.6 to place fourth. Chase Burrell placed fifth with a time of 24:54.9, followed by senior Ethan Lipham, who stopped the clock at 24:58.0 to place sixth. With a time of 24:58.5, sophomore Thomas Wlazlowski took seventh. Junior Derek Waite improved upon his previous personal best by 24 seconds, stopping the clock at 25:06.0 to finish eighth.
 
For a second meet this fall, sophomore Breanna Budzinski was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line in the women's race. Budzinski improved upon her 6K personal best by a second with a time of 21:50.4, placing eighth overall. The freshman quartet of Elizabeth McCart, Josie Jackson, Tessa Massa, and Ashby Williams finished among the top 25 and each recorded personal bests. McCart stopped the clock at 22:08.5 to place 13th and was followed closely by Jackson, who crossed the finish line with a time of 22:11.7 to finish 15th. Massa and Williams placed 22nd (22:21.5) and 23rd (22:23.3) respectively. William & Mary's Perry Irons won the women's 6K race with a time of 20:49.2. 
 
Up Next
The Mountaineers will close out the regular season with a trip to Princeton, NJ for the Princetown Fall Classic on Oct. 17. The women's 5K is set for 10:30 a.m. with the men's 8K to follow at 11:15 a.m.
