NEW ORLEANS – App State's Noah Martinson was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the third time this year, the league announced Wednesday.
Martinson led the Mountaineers for the fourth time in as many meets as he broke the App State 8K record at the Arturo Barrios Invitational. His time of 23.17.4 broke the record by nearly 30 seconds and helped the team earn a second-place finish in a crowded field of 38 teams. App State finished first among all Division I schools, beating out Texas A&M, Arizona State, Ohio State, TCU, Texas and Baylor.
The Carrollton, Ga., native held a strong pace throughout the race, holding a spot in the top 20 after every split and moved up five spots from 16th to 11th at the 6.9K split, where he finished the race. He has placed 11th or better in every meet this season.
With his latest Sun Belt Conference Runner of the Week honor, Martinson became the second Mountaineer to earn the distinction three times, joining Oliver Wilson-Cook, who accomplished the feat in 2023.
