BOONE, N.C. — The App State field hockey team faced a tough match, falling to Miami (Ohio) 7-0 in the first conference setback of the season.
How it Happened
1st: The Mountaineers (8-2, 3-1) started strong defensively, holding Miami (7-3, 3-1) scoreless in the first period. App State created early offensive pressure, taking four shots and earning one penalty corner, with goalkeeper Nicky Sjouken making three saves for the RedHawks in the period.
2nd: Miami scored the first two goals of the match in the second period. App State's defense held firm, not allowing another goal from the RedHawks after the second.
Samantha Connors recorded a defensive save, along with goalkeeper
Claire Grenis making one save in the period.
3rd: The Mountaineers' defense made three saves in the third period, while App State registered one shot on goal from
Carlotta Fabian.
4th: App State closed out the match by registering three shots and earning two penalty corners, with goalkeeper
Dakota Anderson tallying one save in the period.
Kassie Paul and Fabian also each registered a shot saved by the Miami goalkeeper.
