HARRISONBURG, Va. – App State Tennis dropped its Sun Belt Conference opener 5-2 to James Madison on Saturday.
The Mountaineers (6-5, 0-1 SBC) received wins from sophomore
Savannah Dada-Mascoll at No. 1 singles and freshman
Taya Powell at No. 2 singles to highlight their road performance.
After App State dropped the doubles point, Dada-Mascoll picked up her eighth straight singles win, defeating Daria Munteanu 6-3, 6-0 as the Yorkshire, England, native tied the match at 1-1. Powell secured a win on court two, as the Aussie defeated Cate Broerman 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in three sets. That allowed App State to pull ahead 2-1 over early into singles action.
Despite the early lead, James Madison (4-5, 1-0 SBC) was able to outlast App State. The Dukes swept the remaining singles matches.
The Dukes started the match with two quick wins in doubles play. James Madison won on courts one and three to take the early 1-0 lead.
