LYNCHBURG, Va. – The App State field hockey team fell to the No. 18 Liberty Flames on Sunday by a score of 5-0.

The Mountaineers (7-4) came into Sunday's matchup on a five-game winning streak, with the loss to Liberty (6-5) being their first since Sept. 13. Â

Claire Grenis tallied a career-high 10 saves, beating her previous high of eight from the Sept. 13 matchup against Wake Forest. Â

How it Happened

1st: App State controlled the bulk of possession in the opening period. Liberty had limited chances, tallying two shots. Both teams were held scoreless.
2nd:Â The Mountaineers opened the period controlling possession, but the Flames began to capitalize on their chances. Liberty scored two goals while tallying 12 shots. Grenis saved six shots in the period after not being tested in the first period.
3rd: It was more of the same for Liberty, as the Flames scored their third goal less than a minute into the period. Liberty tallied three goals, extending the lead to 5-0.

4th:Â The Mountaineer defense held firm in the final period, not allowing any goals. Both teams were held to one shot apiece, testing both goalkeepers.
