BOONE, N.C. – App State's annual Legends Gala will be held Friday, June 23 in the Grandview Ballroom of Kidd Brewer Stadium's north end zone facility.
Established in 2017, the Legends Gala is a premier celebration of App State Athletics that recognizes the remarkable achievements of Mountaineers connected to App State and the High Country.
The 2023 Legends Gala: Forever a Mountaineer, presented by Double Wood Farm, will feature keynote speaker Dexter Coakley, as well as new and exciting silent and live auctions, interactive exclusive App State experiences, dinner, live entertainment and a surprise finale to close the evening. Guests will be invited to wear their favorite App State-themed sneakers to go with their cocktail attire at this year's event.
Coakley, a 1997 App State graduate, was a three-time Southern Conference Player of the Year and three-time All-American linebacker for the Mountaineers before being selected in the third round of the 1997 NFL Draft and playing 10 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time All-Pro pick during his standout pro career. Coakley was inducted into the App State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011, among many other honors.
"We look forward to the Legends Gala every year," Director of Athletics
Doug Gillin said. "This is a signature event that recognizes some of the most remarkable Mountaineers that have given their all for App State. It is an annual reminder of what a special place we all get to call our home or our home away from home."
The 2023 class of App State legends will be announced in April, and tickets for the event will go on sale April 17.
