BOONE, N.C. – App State softball is set to host a pair of midweek contests against North Carolina on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and North Carolina A&T on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Both games are set to take place at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium and will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats available to follow along.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (15-7, 0-1 SBC)
- App State has won six of its last eight, despite dropping its first Sun Belt game to Marshall last Saturday.
- Two of the top 10 hitters in the conference will be suiting up in the Black & Gold. Kayt Houston ranks fifth in the league with a batting average of .397, and Taylor Thorp follows close behind at .393.
- Kaylie Northrop leads the pitching charge with six wins and an ERA of 2.10. All three of the team's primary pitchers are under 2.50.
SCOUTING THE TAR HEELS (10-19, 1-5 ACC)
- North Carolina has dropped four in a row, most recently falling behind No. 15 Duke in a three-game skid last weekend.
- Abby Settlemyre is the batter to watch. She has tallied 33 hits, eight home runs and a .367 average. In the circle, Lilli Backes has earned four wins with an ERA of 2.79.
- This will be the 10th game in a series that North Carolina leads, 1-8. The Mountaineers picked up their lone win in 2015 and the Tar Heels have won the only matchup since in 2022.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES (6-18, 1-2 CAA)
- North Carolina A&T won one of three contests against Drexel to open CAA play after going 5-16 in its opening nonconference games.
- Utility player Sierra Baldwin recently became the first A&T softball player to win a CAA weekly award, being named freshman of the week for her impressive play at the plate during the Gamecock Classic. She is won of three Aggies who bat over .280.
- App State leads the all-time series, 24-6, and has won 13 of the last 14 meetings.
